Clare Brown

Clare Brown was born in Liverpool and brought up mostly in Sheffield. She read English Language and Literature at the University of Liverpool and then worked in theatre management in Leicester and London for seven years before becoming Director of the Poetry Book Society 1996-2003. She is the author of The Creation Myths and Dream Laboratory (both published by Bloomsbury) and co-editor, with Don Paterson, of Don’t Ask Me What I Mean: Poets in Their Own Words (Picador). Her third novel, Mothers’ Day, is currently being translated for Dutch and French publications and her short stories have appeared in Sunday Night and Monday Morning (Five Leaves) and Staple. In addition to writing fiction, Clare has designed and led several courses and workshops for creative and business writing, for both young people and adults. She lives in Nottingham and is a Board member of the Nottingham Writers’ Studio.
