Charles Edward Brooke School

“It has been a brilliant and inspiring journey getting to know the pupils of Charles Edward Brooke First Story group. Although to my absolute horror they still sometimes call me ‘Miss’ rather than my real name, as the weeks passed and the seasons changed, I feel we got to know each other more. Together we found the confidence and trust that there are no wrong or right answers, that it’s more about expression, experimenting with vocabulary, ideas and creativity.”

Salena Godden, First Story Writer-in-Residence at Charles Edward Brooke School

I look, or rather stare, out of the window. The ground is littered with dead leaves. Strange, with it now being winter. There’s a young girl who’s just left her house and is kicking up leaves, much to the dismay of a street cleaner a little further up the road. I smile. I take off my headphones and put them around my neck.
