‘Perspective’ by Tom Hopewell

Tom Hopewell from Queen Elizabeth’s Academy in Nottinghamshire wrote this insightful poem that highlights how a change of perspective can completely transform what we’re seeing. It was featured in his school’s experiential anthology, Diversity and Unity, and sits among a series of pieces that question how we see the world.

A single moment of time,
Captured in a still frame.
A photograph.
A moment.
A memory.
Emotion and Art fuel it,
Cameras help capture it
And a person sees it.
It’s a building at one angle
And it’s not at another.
A city to a playground.
A landscape to a canvas.
The world’s our playground,
Our canvas.
After all,
It’s a matter of perspective.
