Students at Hampstead School ‘Feel Most Free’

Earlier this year, we launched the second National Writing Day. It was brilliant, we know that at least 84,000 young people participated in the celebration of creative writing.

As part of the day, poet and First Story Writer-in-Residence Dean Atta led the UK in our ‘Write Away!’ freewriting exercise, which asked people to respond to the prompt ‘I feel most free when…’. This exercise was inspired by a workshop Dean held with a group of First Story students at Hampstead School.

Click below to listen to the uplifting group poem this collection of young writers produced which delves into the things which make them feel most free; ranging from skateboarding to being treated like an adult to, wonderfully, writing.
